              Series forms part of the G. J. Leslie General Merchandise fonds and consists of loose pages from early account books as well as eighteen day books and three large ledger books documenting customer accounts and orders of goods. Some of the large ledger books contain loose receipts and order forms from suppliers and customers from various years. Also included are notes regarding the ledgers, some in correspondence with Robert Kim Stevens in 1998. The notes include personal background information on many of the people listed in the ledgers.               The fonds consists of records which document the business activities and interests of Adams & Knickle Ltd. from 1897 until 1968. Information contained in this fonds provides insight into the company’s role as a major fishing and shipping partner in the fishing and shipping industry in Nova Scotia. Also included in this fonds is information about the company’s international relations with the various agents engaged in this industry; the types and amounts of fish landed, processed, shipped and sold by the company; the many transactions involved in operating vessels; and various events that impacted on the company’s operations. The types of documents include: affidavits, agent accounts, agreements, catch journals, correspondence, damage claims, deeds, employment records, financial statements, fish sales records, fishing contracts, ledgers, notices of protest, port documents, sailing journals, time journals, vessel accounts and journals, vessel certificates, and vessel shares.               Alfred Dickie fonds

              This fonds consists of records which document the personal and business activities and interests of Alfred Dickie and, to a lesser extent, those of his immediate family and employees. Although the records span Dickie’s lifetime, few relate to his childhood, education, or final two years of life. Some items, in particular those concerning his export lumber business or his travels, derive from various places in North and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and South Africa, though by far the majority are found to be located within Nova Scotia. The fonds includes correspondence, business and administrative records, speeches, photographs, legal documents, and plans, among other materials. Records are chiefly in English, although a very small portion are in French, Norwegian, Finnish, Spanish, and Italian. MS-4-64

Anderson & Sons; personal correspondence, predominantly between Caroline MacKeen Anderson and her children, (ca. 1863 to 1907); photocopies of C.W.
