Scope and content

Sub-series consists of Overseers of the Poor account records including returns; reports; Poor Farm/County Home admission applications; ledgers; receipts; and a limited amount of correspondence. Most materials in this sub-series were directly created and/or used by the Overseers themselves. Account papers contain information about the number of paupers in each district; personal information about them such as age, residence, nationality, marital status, religion, and age; where and how individuals were cared for; and the costs related to their care. The sub-series also consists of bonds of the Overseers, blank forms, and notices [194-?] used for settlement declaration and family allowance, as well as to provide welfare information to grocers, applicants, and officers.
