A meeting house was built around 1859 in Doctor's Cove near Barrington, Nova Scotia, which was to be at the disposal of all preachers, and was called the Barrington Central Meeting House. The proper organization of a Baptist congregation at Doctor's Cove was not undertaken until 30 April 1917. Since 1906 and the formation of the United Baptist Convention, the Doctor's Cove United Baptist Church has shared a ministry with Barrington, Oak Park and Bear Point. In 1928, Port LaTour was added to the pastorate.

An Act of the Nova Scotia Legislature in 1826 provided for the Division of the Province into School Districts, and the appointment of School Commissioners who were to examine and license teachers with a general power of inspection and control. The Act for the Encouragement of Schools of 1832 extended the powers of the Board of Commissioners to include the fixing of school boundaries, and to oversee the trustees. By 1895, the majority of the Board's duties were removed except for the determining of school boundaries. In 1942, the Board of School Commissioners was abolished.

The congregation of the Cape Sable Island Free Baptist Church of the township of Barrington, Nova Scotia,was organized 22 March 1821 by Elders Asa McGray and Thomas Crowell. In the spring of 1820 there was a religious revival on Cape Sable Island and as a result, a church was organized at Centreville as a branch of the Barrington Passage Church. A year later it became a separate organization with McGray as pastor and Crowell as the assistant pastor. In 1841 this church was reorganized as part of the Free Will Baptist Conference in Maine.

Blinn, Omer, 1936-

Omer Blinn naquit à Saint-Bernard, Nouvelle-Écosse, le 28 février 1936, fils de Howard Blinn et de Dorothée Thibault. Après ses études à l'école du village, il entra au Collège Sainte-Anne en 1947 et, lors de sa graduation en 1953, il se vit décerné le diplôme du cours commercial. De 1953 à 1957, il fréquenta le Collège Saint-Joseph de Memramcook, où il obtint un baccaulérat ès commerce. L'année suivante, il gradua de l'Université Laval avec une maîtrise ès commerce. En 1958, il épousa Bernadette Blinn, fille de Auguste Blinn et de Agnès Boudreau. Quatre enfants vont naître de cette union. Après ses études, Omer Blinn fut employé à l'Assomption pendant cinq ans, deux ans dans le système scolaire du Québec et un an dans le système scolaire de Clare. En 1967, il retourna à son alma mater pour organiser et enseigner le cours de commerce chez cette institution menée par les pères de la Congrégation de Jésus et de Marie, dite Eudiste. Au moment de la laïcisation de l'Université Sainte-Anne au début des années 1970, Monsieur Blinn fut nommé vice -recteur à l'administration par le recteur Louis R. Comeau, poste qu'il a détenu jusqu'à sa retraite en 1994. Omer Blinn fut également impliqué du côté communautaire, ayant été élu conseiller et préfet de la Municipalité de Clare en 1970 et ce jusqu'en 1976.

Doane, Benjamin Hervey

Benjamin Hervey Doane was born 6 May 1863 in Brooklyn, New York. His father was Captain Benjamin Doane of Barrington, Nova Scotia. Although born in Brooklyn, Benjamin H. Doane was raised from infancy by an aunt in Barrington. He married Mary Eliza Davis (1864-1910) in 1888. He married a second time in 1913 to Alice Underhill (d. 1956). Doane graduated in law from Columbia University in 1902. He was a stenographer for the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in New York City, then secretary to the presiding Justice, then confiden ial adviser to the Justices for a number of years, until a special office of confidential clerk was created for him. Doane was active in the Society of Friends and was a student of genealogy. Benjamin H. Doane died 14 August 1947.

Doane, Arnold

Arnold Doane was born 20 August 1833 in Barrington, Nova Scotia. In June 1852 Arnold, with his brothers, Seth, Joseph and Arthur, purchased the brigantine Sebim built by Arnold's brother Captain Warren Doane at his shipyard in Barrington. They sailed to Australia where Arnold worked for several years in the goldfield at Ballarat. With the proceeds, Arnold attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. He then became a professor of music in Barrington and in Halifax. Doane married Amanda Atwood 19 August 1873. Amanda was born 15 May 1851 at Barrington. Their children were Frederick Arnold Doane and Edith Doane Ewart. Doane spent years collecting data for a history of Barrington. Doane died in Barrington on 14 January 1911.
