Helen Maude Begin was born in 1888 at Fauxburg in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. In 1910 she married the fisherman Laurence Freeman Slauenwhite. The couple had one child. Helen (Begin) Slauenwhite died at Lunenburg in 1965. She is buried in the Old Blockhouse Cemetery in Blockhouse, Nova Scotia.

George Albert Slaunwhite, the son of David Slaunwhite (a carpenter) and Sarah Backman, was born at Mahone Bay in 1854. Active for many decades as a mariner, Slaunwhite served on numerous Lunenburg County vessels engaged in the West Indies trade and the local fishery. He also owned shares in several vessels. Slaunwhite obtained his mate’s certificate in 1883. In 1893, he married Mildred Eudora Dolliver of Port Medway. Slaunwhite later lived with his brother David in Mader’s Cove. Slauwnwhite died at Mader’s Cove in 1932.

Rufus William Smith was born November 3, 1848. He was a Master Mariner for most of his adult life and commanded several sailing vessels. Most notably he commanded the N.B Morris. At the age of 31, he married Mary Kirkpatrick, who was 23 at the time, in 1880, Cumberland County N.S. Captain Smith taught his wife how to navigate. Mary sailed as first mate with her husband on the N.B Morris. Mary and Rufus had a son named Ray R. Smith. Mary Kirkpatrick Smith died on April 20th 1909 in Parrsboro, Cumberland County N.S at the age of 52. Retired from sailing Captain Smith died at the age of 86 in 1934 at Musquodoboit Harbour, Hallifax County, N.S. Mary and Rufus's grandson Clyde David Smith was born in 1935 and passed away in 2019.
