    Administrative history

Benajmin LeBlanc & Company was operated by Benjamin LeBlanc, of Plymouth, Yarmouth County, N.S., who was a shipbuilder, ship owner and merchant. He was born in 1856, son of Jean Mandé, a local merchant, and Rosalie Léonice d'Entremont LeBlanc. In 1870, he married Therese Pothier. They had 10 children. Benjamin and his father were involved in the coastal fishing trade and sold locally caught fish out of their Wedgeport store. Jean Mandé LeBlanc died in 1887, and Benjamin assumed full responsibility for the family business. Benjamin also owned shares in several schooners. He died in 1944.

    Custodial history

Records in fonds were donated by Clarence Le Blanc in 1984 to the Argyle Township Court House Archives.

    Scope and content

Fonds consists of one ledger which contains account information from 1873-1892 and from 1923-1942. The early 1870s entries were most likely created by Jean Mandé. Also contained in ledger are notes regarding LeBlanc family history - birth, death and marriage dates - recorded between 1937 and 1979.
