Administrative history

The BS Poetry Society was incorporated in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1986 as a not-for-profit organization. Originally named the Bourbon Street Poetry Society, it was founded in Banff in 1983 to develop and promote literary arts opportunities for writers. The society has published literary periodicals including BSPS Journal, later known as Poetry Halifax Dartmouth, and Skatz (1986-1991), and organized peer poetry and instruction workshops, arts research projects, author tours and reading series, audio poetry installations, book fairs, poetry sweatshop/slam events, radio programs, and poetry award competitions.

Custodial history

Records were found at the Dalhousie University Archives on September 27, 2016 and given accession number (2016-038). Records are believed to have been donated in the mid-1990s.
