Custodial history

Most records in this fonds were transferred from the Port of Halifax to NSARM in 1983 and 1984. NSARM transferred these, and other records pertaining to the Halifax Harbour Commissioners in 2004 which were then accessioned by the archives in 2005.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of records created and/or accumulated and used by the Halifax Harbour Commissioners as well as some records maintained by the City of Halifax pertaining to the Halifax Harbour Commission. The fonds includes agreements, briefs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, meeting minutes, maps, and drawings. Records primarily pertain to efforts in the late 1920s and early 1930s to have a bridge built between Dartmouth and Halifax. Other records pertain to disagreements between the city and the commissioners.
