    Administrative history

The Canadian Red Cross was founded in 1896 by George Sterling Ryerson. The mission of the Red Cross is to furnish volunteer aid to sick and wounded armies in time of war as well as to carry on and assist in work for the improvement of health, the prevention of disease, and the mitigation of suffering throughout the world in time of peace or war. The Yarmouth Branch was founded in September, 1939; the acting members were C.C. Walker, President; A.S. Creighton, Vice-President; Geo. E. Haley, Secretary-Treasurer; F.H. Creighton and E.H. Spinney. During WWII the Yarmouth Red Cross Members fundraised money and made garments required by the Military authorities.

    Custodial history

Records were donated by David Sollows. The records were from the estate of Ida B. Sollows, of Sollows Lodge, Main St. The Red Cross met in the sun porch of Ida's home during WWII.
