Biographical history
The Creighton family of Halifax consisted of parents Graham and Catherine (Murray) Creighton and their children Edith, Anna, Lois, Frieda, Howard, and Wilfred. The family is known to have resided in Halifax on Roome Street, Gottingen Street, Oakland Road, and eventually 14 LeMarchant Street (later renumbered to 1234 LeMarchant Street). They also resided in Middle Musquodoboit for a time around 1908.
Custodial history
Most of the materials in the fonds were donated to the Archives by Edith and Hugh Creighton. Edith Creighton donated the diaries of Catherine Creighton, as well as correspondence, photographs, and the papers of various family members in 1993. The remaining materials were donated to the Archives by Hugh and Wilfred Creighton in several accessions from 1994 to 1997.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of papers created and/or accumulated by Catherine Creighton and her family, including those of her husband Graham and children Edith, Anna, Lois, Frieda, and Howard. While the fonds includes correspondence from Wilfred Creighton to his siblings and parents, Wilfred's papers are not included as a sous-fonds within the fonds.
The bulk of the fonds consists of correspondence from family and friends, but also includes diaries, photographs, financial papers, personal papers, memorabilia, print materials, scrapbooks, articles, and artwork. Records in the fonds provide a well-rounded depiction of the family's daily activities and lives - from their relationships with each other, their extended family, and their community, to their financial status, values, education, and careers.
