              Fonds · 1966-1980
              The first three series of the fonds consist of essays and research written and compiled by Mr. Patrick Milligan and Mr. D. Engram’s grade ten students at Eastern Shore District High School between 1973 and 1980 as part of a class project on local history. The essays include information about various aspects of the history of the Eastern Shore such as industries and occupations, activities, cemeteries, churches, individuals, houses, education, and family and community history. Selected essays from Mr. Milligan’s local history course, 1974-1975, were compiled into a school publication called The Shore Thing, a preliminary copy of which is included in the fonds. The purpose of the book was to introduce students to their own area and familiarize them with the history of local communities along the Eastern Shore. It was placed in the school library for the benefit of all students. The fonds also consists of yearbooks and a newspaper published by the school during the first ten years of its operation.               Part of Katherine L. Stoddard family fonds
              Series forms part of the Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists of genealogical research and records pertaining to various Eastern Shore families. The families who feature most prominently are the Stoddards and Ritceys (Henrici), however, the Shellnut, Eisan, Anderson, Siteman, Gaetz (Gates), Newcomb, Bayers, Robson, MacEachern, Blaxland. Records appear primarily the result of research conducted by Katherine Stoddard, however, some records note that documents were copied by Annabel Siteman Ells and may have been intended for Katherine’s mother, Eva, who may also have conducted genealogical research. Series also includes an incomplete copy of A Brief History of the Stoddards of Halifax County written by Elsie Florence Stoddard. Records include information on many pioneer families on the Eastern Shore, including the families of Thomas Stoddard, Leonard and Martin Gaetz, and Henry Seidman (Seidemann) as well as information on the origins of the Ritcey family beginning with Johannis Christophorus Henrici. Records include handwritten information, copies of information from various sources including vital statistics and newspapers, and books in which Katherine Stoddard recorded information about her own family, one of which features a drawing of a map that shows various landowners around Clam Harbour and Owl’s Head.               Consists of records related to the life, activities, and interests of Helene Read and includes family photographs, Stoddard family history and land information, personal and professional correspondence, information about the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service and other organizations with which Helene was involved.               Fonds consists primarily of documents related to Katherine L. Stoddard’s research and her interest in genealogy, particularly that of her own family. Stoddard’s records include information related to many Eastern Shore families, including the Stoddard and Ritcey families, as well as local history. Fonds also includes correspondence, cookbooks and handwritten recipes, photographs, postcards, maps, certificates, land grants, yearbooks, deeds, and wills. Accession number: 2013.008

              Part of Helene Read fonds
              Series forms part of the Helene Read fonds and consists of a land indenture dated August 8, 1799 in which possession of land in Clam Harbour is passed from Robert, Colin, and Patrick Campbell and their wives to Thomas Stoddard. Series also includes information concerning other land grants in Clam Harbour belonging to the Campbell and Stoddard families between 1765 to 1894 and 1945. Four maps are also included in the series and include plans dated 1956 showing the division of the estate of James Stoddard as per his will, a map of the lands of Ralph Stoddard dated 1970, and two maps showing the subdivision of Lot 1 lands owned by Douglas F. Stoddard dated 1963. In addition there is one map of the land belonging to Robert Sr., Duncan, and Robert Campbell as well as two pages of microfilm copies of the land grant document presumably for that piece of land c. 1760. All maps pertain to land in Clam Harbour. Series also contains copies of the wills of James Edward Stoddard, Thomas Stoddard, Adam Stoddard, Edmund Fanning Stoddard, and documents concerning the estate of Nancy Stoddard.               Collection consists of forty monochrome aerial photographs of the Eastern Shore taken between 1931 and 1945. Also includes seven corresponding flight maps. Photographs illustrate the landscapes and coastlines of various locations along the Eastern Shore as they were in 1931-1945. Areas covered by the aerial photographs within this collection include Owl's Head, Little Harbour, Clam Harbour, Burnt Point, Clam Bay, Lake Charlotte, Ship Harbour, Upper Lakeville, Oyster Pond, and the Jeddores.
