Series forms part of Saint Mary's University Student Services fonds and consists of information about the Black Student Advisor (1998), brochures about counselling services mainly related to sexual harrassment and related issues and student peers issues. A student counsellor has been available on campus since 1953. Counselling Services was established in 1972 and reports to the Director of Student Services. 'Counselling Services provides short-term personal and career counselling and educational planning' (brochure, n.d.). Counselling Services includes the Aboriginal Student Office (1998-1999), the Black Student Advisor (1998-1999), the Peer Office (1991-1999), and the Sexual Harassment Advisor (1988-1999). Known persons to have held the position of Counsellor: G. Gallagher (1953-1960), M.J. O'Donnell (1960-1968), Arthur Conlon (1969-1971), and John J. Hennessey (1970-1972). Known persons to have held the position of Head of Counselling Services or Coordinator: Laurie Smith (1972-1979), David Leitch (1981-1989), Pamela Stonehouse (1990-1992), and Beth Poulos (1994-1996). Known persons to have held the position of Sexual Harassment Advisor: Kathleen Susan Shaw (1988-1992), Kathy Riple (1992-1993), and Jo Stern (1993-1999).
