Administrative history

The Commission, which started as the Industries Committee in the 1950s, became the Industrial Commission ca. 1968 and continued to the end of the City of Dartmouth in 1996. In the 1960s it had twelve members, including six members of Council, one of whom was the Mayor, and six citizens-at-large, one of whom was a member of the Burnside Park Committee and one of whom was a member of the Dartmouth Chamber of Commerce. Members served for one year. Later there were only ten members.

The objects of the Commission were to encourage the development of industries and to make recommendations on zoning, the provisions of suitable sites and municipal services for industry, and the effect of taxation upon industry. The Commission met monthly.
