    Biographical history

    Edith Celestial Hamm, the daughter of James Harris and Elba Rebecca “Elby” (Wentzell) Hamm, was born in 1910 at Mahone Bay, where her father worked as a blacksmith. Also known as “Chook” or “Chookie,” Edith Hamm operated a barbershop in Mahone Bay for many decades. She died at Lunenburg in 1993 and is buried in Mahone Bay.

    The records were acquired by the Mahone Bay Museum following the death of Edith C. Hamm, forming part of the museum’s archival backlog.

    Fonds consists of photographs documenting the early life of Edith C. Hamm, as well as the lives of other members of the Hamm family and family friends, primarily in the Mahone Bay area.
