    Administrative history

The Newcombe's Dry Goods Store was established at Kentville, N.S. in the late nineteenth century by Fred B. Newcombe. In 1897 Newcombe was joined by his brother E.B. Newcombe, who continued to operate the store, now called Fred. B. Newcombe & Co., following the death of his brother. In 1927 the store was sold to a Mr. Ramey. The next owner was Mr. T.M. Stent and he changed the name of the store to Kentville Dry Goods Ltd. In 1946 the store was again sold to Reginald H. Muttart who renamed the store in 1952 Muttart's Ltd. In 1970 the store was sold for the final time to Edward Heathorn who relocated the business within Kentville and the store closed in 1977.
