Biographical history

Gilbert Kempton was born in 1847 at Milton, Nova Scotia. He took up photography in 1892 and set up a dark room in his Liverpool home. He married Annie Freeman and the couple had at least three children: Alice Kempton McCobb, Winnifred Kempton Thompson and Gilbert Kempton Jr.

Custodial history

Donated in 1983.

Scope and content

images created by Kempton as an amateur photographer. These include photographs of his family, friends and the Liverpool and Milton areas. The album consists of images taken by Kempton which were reproduced by his son George, who added the notations ca. 1944-1945.
