    Biographical history

    Rev. Dr. William J. Armitage (1860-1929) served as rector of St. Paul's Church, Halifax, from 1897-1929. He volunteered as military chaplain, ministering to the men who camped in Halifax prior to being sent overseas and served as honorary chaplain of the 66th Regiment, and president and chairman of several notable organizations.

    Custodial history

    Papers were collected by Rev. Dr. Armitage in his capacity as executor of the Gossip family and Hodgers family estates. Papers were found in the old St. Paul's Parish Hall.

    Scope and content

    Sub-series consists of correspondence (including personal correspondence with the rector of St. Paul's), financial papers, real estate papers, and other paperwork culled from dealings with the estates of the Gossip family and Hodgers family.
