History
Grant’s Hotel was established in 1870 by John and Anne (Dennis) Grant in what had been her parents’ home at the corner of Main and Broad Streets in Guysborough. The old Methodist manse was moved to the premises as an addition in 1872. Anne Grant’s father’s workshop was altered to become a dining room overlooking the harbour. It was the best known, and sometimes the only travellers’ accommodation in Guysborough. The hotel passed to the Grants’ niece Nellie, who married Sheriff Wiley Smith. In 1941 it was bought by Charlie and Hilda Jenkins. Later it was operated for a time by Mary K. Connolly. The last owner was Charles Brilvitch . The hotel was torn down in 2003
