The Halifax County Industrial Commission was incorporated in 1965 under the Area Industrial Commission Act. It was dissolved and its assets vested to HRM pursuant to the Halifax Regional Municipality Act section 8.2 on April 1, 1996. The Commission's main function was to encourage the establishment of industry in the Municipality of the County of Halifax. The Commission held land and promoted development of industrial areas like the Aerotech Business Park. The Industrial Commission replaced the earlier Industrial Committee; unlike that Committee, however, the Industrial Commission was comprised of members of the public rather than municipal councilors. It occasionally met with the Industrial Sub-Committee.

Series consists of the minutes of the Halifax County Industrial Commission; other materials related to Commission meetings, such as agendas, correspondence, reports, legal agreements, and an audio recording of a presentation; and photographs from a Halifax Industrial Commission Investment Seminar, likely in China or South Korea.

Immediate source of acquisition
Minutes were transferred from HRM's Municipal Clerk's Office in 2005. Photographs transferred to the Archives in 2006. Additional material related to meetings, including audio tapes, transferred from Records Centre in 2008. The videocassette was transferred from the former Corporate Library between 1995-2005.
