Administrative history

In 1873 the Halifax Police Department's detective division was established. The detectives, who wore plain clothes rather than the police uniform, investigated crimes referred to it by the patrol division. Detectives generally dealt with crimes that required an in-depth investigation. In 1996 the Division was replaced by the amalgamated Halifax Regional Police Criminal Investigation Division.

Scope and content

Sub-series consists of the call books of the City of Halifax Police Department's Detective Division. Similar to patrol record books (series 102-16B), these usually list the following for each crime reported: date, name and address of complainant, time, nature of complaint, and investigator.
