Scope and content

Series consists of miscellaneous registers of the City of Halifax Police Department, as follows: R.1 and R.2 - Commitment Books, detailing fines paid to police for minor offenses; books list date, name, offense, fine, where the prisoner was committed and for how long, and date of release (1856, 1905-1925) R.3 - Liquor License Act Report Book, listing suspected infringements and investigations (1893-19030). Also includes a Police Staff Register, 1892-1914, an alphabetical listing of police officers noting name, date they joined the force and notes on their career R.4 - Names of Persons Entitled to Sell Liquor Licenses book, organised by ward and section; lists name, occupation, address (1905) R.5 - Bicycle permit book, listing permit number, trade name and serial number of bicycle, owner's name and address, issuing officer, date, and fee paid (1927) R.6 - Hoboes Book, listing name, address (i.e. town/city or country), birthplace, height, age, marks, complexion, religion (1934-1937) R.7 - Warrant Book, listing date of issuance of warrant, name of suspect, charge, and where applicable date of arrest and name of arresting officer (1934-1947) R.8 - Record of Exhibits [sent by Detective Division for identification] (1935-1940) R.9 - RCMP Prisoner Report Books, detailing prisoners left in the custody of the Halifax Police Department and the charges against them (1970-1976 and 1989) R.10 - Bedford Prisoner Report Book, detailing prisoners left in the custody of the Halifax Police Department and the charges against them (1987-1989) R.11 - List of periodicals and newspapers subscribed to by undersigned police officers "for our amusement during leisure hours" (1870) *R.12 - Decorative Halifax Police Department album listing members of the City of Halifax Police Committee, Police Executive, Police Staff, with title and Police Officers in Platoons 1, 2 and 3 (1937). Attached to the album is a Provincial Exhibition ticket indicating Arthur F. McIsaac (police officer) received first prize for it in the Decorative Address or Record class.
