    Biographical history

    Herbert Reginald Hyson was born at Mahone Bay in 1919. The only child of Reginald Edward and Helena Victoria (Keddy) Hyson, he attended the Maritime Business College in Halifax. He then returned to Mahone Bay and worked in his family’s grocery store. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. He then resumed working at the family store. Deeply interested in Mahone Bay’s history, he was a member of the Mahone Bay Founder’s Society. He was also active in the Legion and the local Masonic lodge. He died at Mahone Bay in 2001.

    The records were donated by Allan Coggan in 2001.

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of photographs (11 colour and 8 black and white) documenting the life of Herbert Reginald Hyson, together with an obituary and a memoir, both written by Hyson’s lifelong friend Allan Coggan.
