Biographical history
Hugh McPhie was born in 1815 in Avondale, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. He settled in Antigonish, Nova Scotia circa 1840. For a number of years he ran a general store in the village. In January 1861 he was appointed collector of customs and at this time gave up his store. McPhie died at Antigonish in 1887.
Custodial history
Ledger was donated to the Antigonish Heritage Museum by Ronald MacDonald, an Antigonish businessman and historian.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of one ledger used to record transactions between McPhie and his patrons.
