Series forms part of Nova Scotia Royal Commission on Forestry fonds and consists of written briefs submitted to the commission. Briefs originated from individuals, organizations, associations, committees, commissions, and authorities throughout the province. Series is arranged alphabetically by submitter.

Series forms part of Royal Commission on Education, Public Services and Provincial-Municipal Relations fonds and consists of the chair's manuscript notebooks and other material. The notebooks include a set of four kept during the public hearings and an additional set of seven (of which no. 4 is missing) covering the period from the commission's beginnings in March 1971 to December 1973. The notebooks include the chair's general notes and notes on meetings. Series also includes further notes and notebooks of the chair, undesignated but descriptive of the direction of the commission, as well as an annotated copy of J. Murray Beck's study of municipal government in Nova Scotia. Also includes a group of folders with notes referring to many of the public hearings; a photograph of the three commissioners at work; records documenting the mandate, terms of reference, procedural rules and guidelines; prepared biographies of the commissioners; summation of written and distributed commission material; commission hearing notice and press release; notes on a statement to be delivered by Premier Gerald Regan upon tabling of the report and the proposed timetable for report implementation.

Fonds consists of the Commission Counsel Arthur L. Thurlow’s legal research files and correspondence (1955-1956); typed hearing transcripts (February, April 1956 and June 1957); documents submitted as evidence labeled Exhibits W/1 to W/53 and W/B, W/C, W/F, W/G to W/O, including crown land grants, past survey maps of the Harrington River and Five Islands area and Plans 1 to 3 survey maps showing disputed area created by government surveyor Joseph Archibald July-August 1956 (collected 1956); survey progress report with photographs from J. Archibald (1956); the unpublished final report with cover letter (1959); Book of Documents compiled by Thurlow containing copies of the statutes (acts), Orders-in-Council, and civil law suit of 1944 pleadings, evidence, and decision of Justice Doull, intended to be part of the final report (compiled 1956). Fonds also includes a brief from Colchester County (1957); public notices newspaper clippings (1956); some receipts and administrative correspondence to Thurlow (1955-1956); tax assessment rolls for District 19 Five Islands 1930-1931 (collected 1956); and copies of legislation on county boundaries 1851-1928 (collected 1956).

solicited and unsolicited correspondence between the commission and those interested in forestry in Nova Scotia. The correspondence provided the commission with opinions and recommendations, as well as with information on forestry in the province. Series also includes working papers, such as legal material, research documents, interviews, statistical reports, forest performance audits, charts, and clippings. Administrative records consists of the budget and account books of the commission.

Includes files of correspondence with Premier Gerald Regan, Finance Minister Peter Nicholson, Attorney General and Labour Minister Leonard Pace, Municipal Affairs Minister Fraser Mooney, Education and Public Welfare Minister Allan Sullivan and Health Minister Scott MacNutt, as well as with other ministers and deputy ministers.
