Item consists of two photographs from an intersectional football game between Queen Elizabeth High School vs. Salem Classical and High School. The game was held in Salem, Massachusetts, November 21-23, 1947. Photographs depict the school principals and team captains. The Q.E.H. team had been undefeated in their 1947-1948 season, and capped the season by travelling to Salem, Massachusetts to play against the Salem team. The first half of the game was played to Canadian football rules, with Q.E.H. leading 7-2 at halftime. The second half, however, was played to American football rules, and Salem defeated the Halifax team 21-7. Group photograph (CR6-057.1) includes (L-R): Robert Shea, Team Captain, Salem Classical and High School; Chester R. Arnold, Principal, Salem Classical and High School; R. E. Marshall, Principal, Queen Elizabeth High School; Allan Rogers, Team Captain, Queen Elizabeth High School. In the photograph, Allan Doull Rogers (1929-1995) is wearing two tasselled pins that say "Salem," and a tag that says "Queen Elizabeth's of Halifax VS. Salem Massachusetts," his name "Al Rogers," and what appears to be "Right Halfback" below that. Two men shaking hands (CR6-057.2) includes (L-R): Chester R. Item consists of souvenir booklet of photographs documenting the Bedford Magazine Explosion of July 1945. Images show smoke from the explosion; damaged buildings, homes, and vehicles, including the Magazine staff house: ; fire-fighting crew and men and women gathered for a meal in the Elkins Barrack mess-hall in Eastern Passage. Images are not identified; however newsclippings indicate what some images are. CR6-067
Item consists of an oblique aerial photograph showing Fairview and the North End from Bedford Basin to Bayer's Road and showing up to Dartmouth. Shows rail lines, Fairview Railway station (demolished in 1949), Fairview Roundhouse and Repair yards, Fairview Cemetery, St. John Church and Cemetery, Department of Transportation buildings, Africville including the houses "Round the Bend," Kempt Road, Windsor St., Lady Hammond Road, Titus Smith School, Rockhead Prison, wharves, farmland, etc. Note that the upper part of the image (east from about Robie St.) has fallen out of focus, likely due to the lens or aperture used when photographed. File consists of photographs of people attending the Explosion Memorial service in 1985 when a time capsule was placed inside the Memorial Bell Tower in Fort Needham park. People photographed include members of the 1985 Memorial Bells Committee: Alec McLeave, Dr. MacGregor, Barbara Orr (brown fur coat),Millicent Upham Swindells (fur coat) with her son Vincent Ihasz and grand-daughter Anne Louise Ihasz (later Desrosiers), Larry Bone (white coat and hat), Janet Kitz (white hat) and Mayor Ron Wallace.
