Subseries consists of 9 files relating to actions and events (cultural, political, sporting and other) relating to minority communities in Halifax and Nova Scotia. The subseries consists of newsletters, press releases, flyers, tickets, brochures, and other material. Some of the material was created by the Afro-Canadian Caucus, the Black Cultural Centre, and other groups. Subseries consists of 1 file containing reports and background research material on affirmative action, and especially affirmative action in Nova Scotia. The materials in the subseries include a report "The Black Employment Program in Nova Scotia", text of debates in the legislature, issues of "Panorama" (the newspaper for staff of Employment and Immigration Canada), the test of a speech by Provincial NDP leader Alexa McDonough to the graduating class of Charles P. Subseries consists of 11 files, 9 of which are news clippings, and two which contain other resource material (publications, brochures, speeches, photographic negatives, and other documents). All of the files document the history of Africville in Halifax, many of the news clippings detail reunions of residents in the 1980s and 1990s, demands for compensation, protests (especially by the Carvery brothers), apologies from the Halifax mayor over the treatment of residents, among other topics. The resource files contain programs from events (e.g., film screenings), material relating to the Carvey's protest, an untitled 74 page history of Africville, a speech given to the Canadian Labour Congress on Africville (possibly by Lynn Jones), and an envelope full of material (posters, news clippings, etc) relating to Eddie Carvey. 2016.002.1, Series 3, Subseries 43
Subseries consists of material relating to art and cultural events. The subseries consists of two folders "Art--Nova Scotia" and "Art--Outside of Nova Scotia", and each contain pamphlets, programs, posters, press releases, and other materials relating to art events (most of which feature minority artists or performers). The "Art--Nova Scotia" file contains several pieces of material relating to the work of the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia. 2016.002.1, Series 3, Subseries 44
Subseries consists of research material collected by Lynn Jones. The subseries consists of 16 files, which are split into two major groups, the first are newspaper clippings documenting major events affecting the Black/African-Canadian community in Nova Scotia (and sometimes Canada more broadly). These files have been sorted by date, ranging from the early 1970s to 2016 (the dates of some are unknown). The second half of the subseries consists of material relating to events, programs, politics, groups of interest to the African Canadian community in Nova Scotia. The materials in that part of the subseries contain articles, magazine clippings, sporting programs, church service programs, and other documents. Some material concerns the Canadian Employment Centre (CEC), the Halifax City Regional Library, education, elections in Nova Scotia, histories, among others. 2016.002.1, Series 3, Subseries 1
