The fonds consists of records, ledgers and photographs that document the lives of the family of George R. Smith. Records are arranged into series based on content or record type, including: letters from Raymond Smith during World War I; letters from Ernest Smith during World War I; letters from Lloyd Smith during World War I; letters from other Smith family members; "Londonderry Letter" by Lloyd Smith; and account books of George R. Smith. Photographs and negatives are housed separately and demonstrate some of the activities of the members of the Smith family; most photographs are portraits of unidentified people that are arranged by photographer, demonstrating the activities of North American photographers from the 1850s - 1940s. There are also a significant number of photographs of the Smith sons during World War I; Florine Smith's trip to Europe; and portraits addressed to Florine Smith from classmates at the Halifax Ladies College. The fonds consists of assorted records created by the Town of Truro, including annual reports, Sinking Fund Investments, assessment rolls (380 cm), school board records, nomination papers, for a century from 1886 - 1988. The fonds has had accruals since the initial acquisitions in 1999. Emma Ellis Fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, photographs and negatives, newspaper clippings, and books that belonged to Emma Ellis, concerning her participation in the Expo-Africa programme by St. Andrew's United Church, Truro, NS. The photograph series also contains portraits of members of the Locke family, as well as unidentified individuals, taken in Nova Scotia and New England. Blaikie Family Collection

The collection contains textual records and photographs that demonstrate the activities of several members of the Blaikie Family of Great Village, NS, for almost a century from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. Items were arranged into series by the archivist based on record type or content, including: letters; insurance policies for various properties in Great Village; payment agreements; Estate of Melinda (Gould) Blaikie; bills; land deeds; John Wier contracts; World War I correspondence, mostly between Joseph McKay Blaikie and Blanche Johnson; ledgers; documents related to the shipbuilding and shipping industries, focusing on “The Peerless”, “Chieftain”, and “The President”. The fonds also contains assorted items related to community organizations and happenings in Great Village, NS, including: day books for Ezra Layton’s store; Iron Age Division of the Sons of Temperance; dyke books; play bills; Corinthians Lodge; war rations books; Women’s Institute of Great Village; and a scrapbook. The photograph collection contains a large number of portraits, with most people identified as members of the Blaikie Family. The fonds contains records that demonstrate the academic activities of the staff and students of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, as well as some materials from the previous Nova Scotia Normal College. The series include: calendars, student directories, guide books, essays, examinations, commencement programs, convocation programs, banquet programs, “Teachers Views” newsletters, “Normal Bulletin” newsletters, while all other records are arranged in no particular order. Dominant record types include awards, certificates, Principal’s reports, addresses, and newspaper clippings, letters, newsletters, and records of the Alumni Association. The records provide information on some of the special events of the school, including Athletic Awards banquets, Honours banquets, convocation, commencement, Christmas concerts, Winter Carnival. Fonds consist of records created and accumulated by Florence M. MacDonald relating to her personal life and three generations of the Donald MacDonald family of Sherbrooke, Guysborough County. Included are a Gaelic language Bible (1867) belonging to Donald MacDonald; a cookbook (1879) interleaved with handwritten family recipes and recipe clippings belonging to Mrs. Donald MacDonald; and records relating to James Wm. MacDonald, Murray MacDonald, and John Geddie MacDonald. Also included are MacDonald family portraits and two photograph albums, one of Florence MacDonald and friends in Sherbrooke and Halifax, and another of lumbering, hunting, and fishing along the St. Mary's River; Province of Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture Domestic Science Bulletin No. 1, Women's Institute Division, The Cooking and Canning of Vegetables (1916); community newspaper clippings and obituaries; personal files and correspondence; and genealogy research and correspondence relating to the MacDonald and Sutherland families of St. Mary's. Also included are originals and copied b&w photographs and negatives used or considered as part of Florence MacDonald's book "Sherbrooke as I Remember It," published in 1987.
