Collection · 1994 - 1995
The collection contains the textual, graphic, and audio records of the oral history project. Twelve people from the Truro area were interviewed and the collection is arranged with a series for each interviewee. Audio cassettes and one videotape were recorded during the interviews. Included with each audio cassette is a transcription and a journal written by the student about their experience. Digital videodiscs were later created in 2013 from the audio cassettes for preservation of the recordings. 95.88.1 - 12

The fonds contains records that demonstrate the academic activities of the staff and students of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, as well as some materials from the previous Nova Scotia Normal College. The series include: calendars, student directories, guide books, essays, examinations, commencement programs, convocation programs, banquet programs, “Teachers Views” newsletters, “Normal Bulletin” newsletters, while all other records are arranged in no particular order. Dominant record types include awards, certificates, Principal’s reports, addresses, and newspaper clippings, letters, newsletters, and records of the Alumni Association. The records provide information on some of the special events of the school, including Athletic Awards banquets, Honours banquets, convocation, commencement, Christmas concerts, Winter Carnival. George R. Smith Family fonds

The fonds consists of records, ledgers and photographs that document the lives of the family of George R. Smith. Records are arranged into series based on content or record type, including: letters from Raymond Smith during World War I; letters from Ernest Smith during World War I; letters from Lloyd Smith during World War I; letters from other Smith family members; "Londonderry Letter" by Lloyd Smith; and account books of George R. Smith. Photographs and negatives are housed separately and demonstrate some of the activities of the members of the Smith family; most photographs are portraits of unidentified people that are arranged by photographer, demonstrating the activities of North American photographers from the 1850s - 1940s. There are also a significant number of photographs of the Smith sons during World War I; Florine Smith's trip to Europe; and portraits addressed to Florine Smith from classmates at the Halifax Ladies College.
