Rachel Wilson Fonds

The fonds contains documents, photographs, and negatives that reflect the community of Bass River, NS, as collected by Rachel Wilson, the creator of the fonds. There are three record series that focus on the Women's Institute of Nova Scotia, in which the creator was heavily involved. Collection · 1994 - 1995
The collection contains the textual, graphic, and audio records of the oral history project. Twelve people from the Truro area were interviewed and the collection is arranged with a series for each interviewee. Audio cassettes and one videotape were recorded during the interviews. Included with each audio cassette is a transcription and a journal written by the student about their experience. Digital videodiscs were later created in 2013 from the audio cassettes for preservation of the recordings. 95.88.1 - 12

The fonds consists of materials that were found in a scrapbook that was owned by W. C. Smith in the 1950s - 1960s. The scrapbook was photocopied and discarded, along with original newspaper clippings. The fonds contains items that belonged to members of the Baxter McCabe family. The majority of the items are land deeds and materials related to the family's involvement in World War II, especially Doris McCabe; record types include handbooks, school reports, attestation papers, discharge certificates, autograph books, and pay books. Scrapbooks contain items related to special programmes and events that the Local Council of Women (Truro) were involved in, as well as photographs. The fonds contains 39 folders of documents that show the activities of the Zonta Club of Truro throughout its lifetime. Document types include booklets, certificates, ephemera, newspaper clippings, notes, reports, Craft Fair materials, yearbooks, newsletters, and ledgers. The fonds contains records that demonstrate the academic activities of the staff and students of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, as well as some materials from the previous Nova Scotia Normal College. The series include: calendars, student directories, guide books, essays, examinations, commencement programs, convocation programs, banquet programs, “Teachers Views” newsletters, “Normal Bulletin” newsletters, while all other records are arranged in no particular order. Dominant record types include awards, certificates, Principal’s reports, addresses, and newspaper clippings, letters, newsletters, and records of the Alumni Association. The records provide information on some of the special events of the school, including Athletic Awards banquets, Honours banquets, convocation, commencement, Christmas concerts, Winter Carnival.
