Fonds gathers material about the history of Loyalists in Guysborough County, N.S., from their arrival in 1783, as well as the activities of the Country Harbour Loyalist Society, notably their 1983 re-enactment of the Landing of the Loyalists and the 2006 grand opening of the Municipal Park and Loyalist Walking Trail in Stormont, Country Harbour. Fonds includes papers generated by the operation of the society, including paperwork for the incorporation of the society, meeting minutes, event planning notes, and letters of support from the community. The sound recordings were mostly created during Barbara Hinds' travels in the Canadian arctic and include several interviews. Fonds contains both original records and reproductions of materials related to Reverend Thomas McCulloch, including one glass plate of an etching of McCulloch, a hand-written paper concerning vegetation in the Minas Basin, shorthand notes, a ticket for McCulloch’s moral philosophy course at Dalhousie College, microfilmed copies of three books by McCulloch, a Dalhousie thesis discussing McCulloch and the Nova Scotia educational system, and correspondence with Sam Cunard, Lord Dalhousie, the University of Edinburgh, and the Wernerian Natural History Society. Blaikie Family Collection

The collection contains textual records and photographs that demonstrate the activities of several members of the Blaikie Family of Great Village, NS, for almost a century from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. Items were arranged into series by the archivist based on record type or content, including: letters; insurance policies for various properties in Great Village; payment agreements; Estate of Melinda (Gould) Blaikie; bills; land deeds; John Wier contracts; World War I correspondence, mostly between Joseph McKay Blaikie and Blanche Johnson; ledgers; documents related to the shipbuilding and shipping industries, focusing on “The Peerless”, “Chieftain”, and “The President”. The fonds also contains assorted items related to community organizations and happenings in Great Village, NS, including: day books for Ezra Layton’s store; Iron Age Division of the Sons of Temperance; dyke books; play bills; Corinthians Lodge; war rations books; Women’s Institute of Great Village; and a scrapbook. The photograph collection contains a large number of portraits, with most people identified as members of the Blaikie Family.
