Part of Town/City of Dartmouth fonds
Sub-series consists of two volumes of legislation relevant to the early operation of the Town of Dartmouth. The first is bound volume of provincial legislation relevant to the Town of Dartmouth or any NS municipality, and the town's by-laws and ordinances. This volume was maintained by the Town Clerk and so has markings and additions as legislation was amended. Among the contents are: An Act to Incorporate the Town of Dartmouth - 1873 and 1886 Police Regulations - 1882 and 1887. the Annual Report of the Warden and Auditors of the Town of Dartmouth - 1886. The second is a scrapbook with pages from the Nova Scotia statutes 1902-1920, pasted into it. The book contains acts governing the Town of Dartmouth, and has been annotated by the Town Clerk-Treasurer's Office to show amendments. 101-2N (formerly 1.2.D.7.1)

Sub-series consists of administrative orders, including different versions and amendments, as well as some related correspondence and minutes. See list of Administrative Orders attached below. Administrative Orders were passed by Council to govern internal City functions, such as the functions of city departments (Recreation, Health, Planning, Development, interanl Audit, emergency Measures Organization, Halifax Transit Corporation, Fire and Police), and civic procedures such as legal claims, budgets, and hiring/firing. Ordinances, on the other hand governed public functions. 102-1H

Sub-series consists of files related to the Africville Follow-up Program and include minutes and correspondence from its employment and housing sub-committees. The Program was initiated in 1970 after the Africville Action Committee called for better housing and employment opportunities for the Africville relocatees it represented. Halifax Social Planning Department staff met with the Committee to follow-up with former Africville residents. The Committee proposed an employment program. The Department started programs focussed on housing and employment for relocated Africville residents. 102-134

Sub-series consists of case files created by social worker Peter J. MacDonald in implementing the Africville Relocation project. Documentation was gathered and used to recommend to the Africville Sub-Committee the level of compensation and the type of support offered to each property owner in Africville. There is a file for each property owner linked to the property number, as identified on map P500/46. There are also files for Africville residents who were not property-owners. Files can contain land ownership documentation, property appraisals, property tax records, photos or plans of buildings, social assistance budget sheets, welfare payment documents, medical bills, as well as correspondence with property owners and with other levels of government. 102-133
