It contains personal and business correspondence; newspaper clippings of articles about her career appointments and friends, news clippings about the Halifax Explosion of 1917 and the subsequent Relief Commission work, the Cape Breton Miner’s Strike of 1922 (her thesis topic) and news clippings of articles about the Women’s Directory of Montreal; her research notes on the working conditions of women in Nova Scotia in 1920; manuscripts of the Canadian Welfare Council study “Problems in Social Welfare in Glace Bay, NS” 1940; a speech published in the journal Social Welfare for 1929; some annual reports for the Women’s Directory of Montreal; and a diary describing her studies at McGill University in 1906, career milestones, activities, events and people 1909-1960. Fonds consists of two diaries kept by eighteen-year old Sarah Clinch which chronicle the events of her visit to Halifax. The diaries cover the period from October 1, 1853 in anticipation of her departure from Boston and continue through the duration of her stay in Halifax from 15 November 1853 to 14 August 1854. Entries in the diary describe personal and family news as well as leisure and church activities, excursions to local sights in Halifax and surrounding area, and social events including balls and visits to the homes of friends and relatives in Halifax, Windsor, and Cornwallis. The family names comprising Sarah's social circle that are mentioned in her diaries include Allison, Almon, Bliss, Haliburton, Starr, and Uniacke. MG 1, vol. 1056; use microfilm reels 10, 176

Fonds consists of records documenting the administration and operation of Large's newspaper The 4th Estate. Fonds contains case and subject files which contain correspondence, memoranda, legal and financial records, reports, newspaper clippings, notes, draft manuscripts, and other items. Also includes files relating to Voices Down East, a literary publication of The 4th Estate established in 1972, which featured Maritime writers. Photographs which appeared in The 4th Estate are also found among the textual records. Also contains two VHS videocassettes entitled '4th Estate' (1977) and 'South Africa' (1986).
