Series forms part of the Mount Saint Vincent University Senate fonds and consists of minutes of meetings of the Committee on Research and Publications (1989-1990)generated by activities which include encouraging research and publications within the University, acting as the peer review committee for the allocation of internal research funds, and advising Senate on research policy and priorities. This accession consists of miscellaneous records relating to David Renton's acting and directing career, including publicity and performance photographs, correspondepence, contracts, and appointment calendars and diaries. Harry Thurston
Series
The records in this accrual largely document the donor's journalistic and non-fiction writing during the 1980s and comprise editorial correspondence, research notes and secondary materials, annotated drafts and printer's proofs, and press releases and reviews for articles published in such magazines as Atlantic Insight, Audubon, Equinox, Harrowsmith and National Geographic. There are similar materials documenting Thurston's work on Tidal Life : A Natural History of the Bay of Fundy, as well as correspondence and administrative records documenting his work with the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia and various professional activities such as attending or organizing workshops and conferences. The accrual also contains a small volume of materials from the late 1970s related to Thurston's activities as a poet, including some correspondence and administrative records related to the poetry journal, Germination, as well as his involvement with the Dirge Poets and their Merry Men, a performance group of poets and musicians. This accession contains primarily draft typescripts of short fiction and related research notes and correspondence. There are also records related to television and film proposals, including synopses and scripts. Marriage licence files

records relating to marriages recorded by the Province. For each recorded marriage there is a document envelope containing the bond, licence (after 1863), and after 1866 a "marriage form" listing the names, ages, birthplaces, places of residence, and marital status for both bride and groom, their parents' names and occupations, the groom's occupation, and the date, place, religion, and names of the celebrant and witnesses for each marriage. Only the "marriage form" gives information concerning the age, birthplace, and parents of those married. The series is arranged chronologically by county with the date of most recent documents transferred to the Archives varying, by county, between 1908 and 1918.

Returns of births registered

quarterly returns of birth registrations made by local registrars and forwarded to the federal statistics office in Halifax N.S. For each birth the registration information includes the name of the person born, the date and place of birth, the mother's maiden name, the father's name, residence and occupation, when and where the parents were married, the date and birth was registered and who provided the information. The returns are in alphabetical order by name of registration district.
