Fonds consists of original accounting ledgers, day books, letterbooks, judgement books, catalogues and indices related to the operations of the Robin Jones and Whitman company and its predecessors. This material dates from 1823-1983 and was created in Cheticamp, Eastern Harbour, Arichat and Big Pond (Grand Etang), Nova Scotia. The 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders) was authorized on the first day of February, 1916 by the appointment of Lt.-Col. F. P. Day, as its commanding Officer. Cape Breton Island, particularly the industrial sections, had already contributed a long list of men in various units such as the 17th, 36th, 25th, 40th, 64th, 85th, and 106th infantry units. It was felt, however, that the authorization of a Battalion recruited from all sections of the Island would be met with a strong response, and the authorities were not disappointed. Within a period of three weeks from the day the first recruit was signed on, the battalion was up to strength and ready to mobilize. For recruiting purposes, the 185th divided the Island into four districts: "A" Company from Inverness, Richmond and Victoria Counties; "B" Company from the towns of Glace Bay, New Waterford, and adjacent districts; "C" Company from Sydney Mines, North Sydney and suburbs; "D" Company from Sydney and the Mira district. Fonds consists of the register of recruits ledger, casualty forms, nominal rolls for drafts, absentee list, declaration and attestation papers, and the list of members of the 185th during World War 1. Fonds consists of Pere Maurice LeBlanc and Rosalie LeBlanc, niece and nephew of Blanche, collected some of the documents in her room at the Pont du Marais Boarding Home after her death in October 17 1995, who then donated the material to the Societe Historique Acadienne de Pubnico – Ouest. Other documents were collected by Pere Clarence d'Entremont, brother of Blanche E. d'Entremont, and then donated the documents to the Societe Historique Acadienne de Pubnico-Ouest in 1998.

Fonds consists of a scrapbook compiled by Sydenham Howe, mostly documenting his family and his literary and artistic interests. Includes correspondence, predominantly written to and from Hon. Joseph Howe; printed and handwritten poems by Joseph Howe, Maria Morris, Mary Jane Katzman Lawson, and others; prints of engravings and lithographs, many of which depict women's fashions of the mid-19th century; newspaper clippings, several pertaining to poetry and curling; sketches and watercolours by artist Maria Morris as well as Mary Currie and S.J. Howe; visiting cards; autographs dated 1757 onwards; printed material and ephemera, including invitations, the Victoria School of Art and Design exhibibition of loans catalogue, 1887, and 1889 issue of Halifax Carnival, and three Notman photographs of John Howe and John and Mary (Currie) Ross.
