Fonds
Fonds consists of textual documents created and accumulated by various groups and organizations within the Institute of Public Affairs/Henson College. Documents include articles, correspondence, minutes, memos, newspaper and magazine clippings, interviews, field notes, pamphlets, and reports. Many of the documents pertain to the internal operations of the IPA. The fonds also contains research proposals and reports related to energy, community growth, urban and rural development, labour studies, education, economic and industrial development, the medical sector, and housing. There is significant work on the status of African Nova Scotians in the employment and economic structure of Nova Scotia and the health of people in the Maritime provinces. The fonds also contains reference material kept by the IPA in its corporate library, which was used in the research and drafting of various reports. UA-26

The fonds consists of correspondence, photographs and negatives, newspaper clippings, and books that belonged to Emma Ellis, concerning her participation in the Expo-Africa programme by St. Andrew's United Church, Truro, NS. The photograph series also contains portraits of members of the Locke family, as well as unidentified individuals, taken in Nova Scotia and New England. Fonds consists primarily of Florence Jessie Murray's personal records regarding her career as a medical missionary in Korea, including correspondence, manuscripts, pamphlets and photographs. There is also a small volume of records that originated with her brother, Alexander Murray, and father, Robert Murray, including correspondence between Alexander Murray, Florence Jessie Murray and E.J.O. Fonds consist of records created and accumulated by Florence M. MacDonald relating to her personal life and three generations of the Donald MacDonald family of Sherbrooke, Guysborough County. Included are a Gaelic language Bible (1867) belonging to Donald MacDonald; a cookbook (1879) interleaved with handwritten family recipes and recipe clippings belonging to Mrs. Donald MacDonald; and records relating to James Wm. MacDonald, Murray MacDonald, and John Geddie MacDonald. Also included are MacDonald family portraits and two photograph albums, one of Florence MacDonald and friends in Sherbrooke and Halifax, and another of lumbering, hunting, and fishing along the St. Mary's River; Province of Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture Domestic Science Bulletin No. 1, Women's Institute Division, The Cooking and Canning of Vegetables (1916); community newspaper clippings and obituaries; personal files and correspondence; and genealogy research and correspondence relating to the MacDonald and Sutherland families of St. Mary's. Also included are originals and copied b&w photographs and negatives used or considered as part of Florence MacDonald's book "Sherbrooke as I Remember It," published in 1987. Freeman F. Tupper fonds

Fonds consists of research notes and materials on the history of Nova Scotia and, more specifically, Liverpool and its prominent families, including family trees and hand-drawn annotated maps. Also included are many manuscripts on a variety of topics relating to Tupper's historical research, ranging from John Cabot and the early explorers to lesser-known local events in the history of Nova Scotia. Also present is a small collection of personal diaries and copies of deeds and legal documents from the Tupper family. MS-2-201
George Farquhar fonds

This fonds consists primarily of records related to the Board of Governors collected by Farquhar during his time on the board, including minutes; the report A Survey and Plan of Fund-raising for Dalhousie University; and a file of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and publications related to President Stanley Carleton’s resignation. The fonds also includes some other miscellaneous materials collected by Farquhar related to the history of Dalhousie or the province, and associations/events with which he was involved. These records include pamphlets, song books, biographical sketches of some notable Nova Scotians, and a number of event programs and invitations. MS-2-237, Box 1
