Subseries consists of 32 files containing news-clippings relating to Hollywood, films, music, television, writing, and other entertainment/artistic pursuits. The clippings generally focus on Black individuals in these fields (such as Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, etc), and are organized by year, with one file for clippings of unknown years. 2016.002.1, Series 3, Subseries 7
Subseries consists of 22 files, which comprise news clippings, most of which focus on race issues, and especially ones that are relevant to Halifax and Nova Scotia. Unlike other subseries, the material in this one is organized in files by subject or theme. The files include "Policing/Justice" (4 files), which outlines legal cases/conflicts with the police and related issues; "Davies Bagambiire" (1 file), which contains articles about the Halifax lawyer, most of which deal with his suspension, work at Dalhousie, and on the Kevin Downey case; "Judges's racist remarks" (1 file), which contains articles about racist behaviour from Nova Scotia justices, most of which centre on Judge John R. Subseries consists of six files containing news clippings relating to post-secondary sports in Canada, and primarily Nova Scotia. Most of the articles relate to African-Canadian athletes playing for Nova Scotia teams (e.g., MSVU, Saint Mary's, Dalhousie, Acadia, and others). Subseries consists of one file which consists primarily of news clippings relating to Buddy Daye. The clippings document his career as a boxer, his run for the Provincial Legislature, his service as the first African-Canadian Sergeant-at-Arms in the Nova Scotia Legislature, and his death. Subseries consists of 12 files relating of research material relating to South Africa. Topics of discussion include apartheid, and resistance, protests, and abolishment of it. Nelson and Winnie Mandela, including trials, Nelson Mandela's run for President in the first free elections in 1994. Some other articles relating to Africa issues are present in this subseries as well. Subseries consists of 19 files of news clippings relating to race and racism, almost all of which relate to Halifax or Nova Scotia. The articles cover diverse topics from the re-emergence of the KKK in Sackville to a NSCC student in Pictou in Nova Scotia being attacked. The subseries consists of six files, five of which are for specific titles: "Afro/Carib News" (1995); "Drum" (1995); "The Spectrum" (1990-1995); "The Afro News" (1995-1998, 2007); "Share" (1980-2013), and one file for other, which contains issues of "Afro-Canadian" (1982, 1990), "Black Labour" (1975), "The Black Voice" (1973), "The Forge" (1978), "The Monitor" (1987), "NBESEE" (1979), and "The Worker" (1986). 2016.002.1, Series 4, Subseries 2
Subseries consists of four files relating to Rocky Jones. The files include "Writing-on Rocky Jones" which includes interviews and stories (some in draft form) which feature Jones. "Writings-Civil rights and racism", which includes papers/articles (some published, some not) on race issues (some titles include "Young, Gifted, and Black", and "Can Racial Attitudes Change"), as well as some covering correspondence. "Writings--Poetry", which includes poetry by others Natt Mesiah Shaka ("Africville Rag"), and George Elliott Clarke ("Five Poems").
