D. B. Cummings Tower

Architectural rendering of details of the roof line and "tower" at 16 Young Street, probably built c1902 by Dimock B. Cummings. The house is built in the Queen Anne style with a shingle texturing at the second story level and a fan motif in the pediment. The builder may have been R.O. McCurdy, well known Truro builder, but that is unconfirmed. 87.20(iv)

Original hand drawn map shows early downtown Truro, "Sept. 9, 1838" appears in pencil as well as "44".Shows the first streets in Truro with placement of homes and homeowner names. Includes Salmon River, Bible Hill (center), Young's Road, Mill Race, Boyd's Brook, Parade Square, Gaol, Court House, and Churches. Several items seem to have been corrected: erased and moved in the same hand - perhaps this was a work in progress. Creator unknown. 2007.107.1

Fonds consists of an annotated manuscript of the booklet written by Frank A. Doane entitled "Old Times in Barrington", revised in 1944, published in Truro. Also includes a copy of Doane's marriage certificate, and manuscripts of articles for "South Shore Notes" printed in the Truro Daily News printed in the late 1940's, and proofs for his book Old Times. Photograph is of the Doane's Truro home.
