Centennial Collection sketches

Collection consists of nine framed sketches of Halifax historic landmarks, done by Nancy Stevens from historic photographs as a Centennial Collection. The Centennial Collection was commissioned by Seaman Cross Ltd. and mass-produced to celebrate Canada's Centennial. Seaman Cross was an office furniture supply company owned by Bill Kitchen, a close family friend of Stevens. This set was given to Hedley G. Ivany to acknowledge his service as City of Halifax Ward 2 Alderman, 1966-1971. Collection also includes a 1971 cartoon by Chronicle Herald cartoonist Bob Chambers (CR 41.10). Collection consists of photographs and post-cards of Nova Scotia Light and Power electric trams, Trailways charter buses and Dartmouth Transit and Halifax Transit buses; transit maps, tickets and transfers. Photos show trams in downtown Halifax in 1959 and 1968; Trailways Starliner buses at the Commission St. garage, 1978; Dartmouth Transit buses at the Dartmouth Mall loop, as well as a bus-stop sign, 1978; and buses at the Halifax Transit garage on Young St., and at Mumford terminal with Simpson's in background, 1978. Post cards show the last Birney trolley car in Halifax, 1948; the first articulated bus built in Canada used on the Metro Transit #20 Glen Forest run, 1992; NSLP trolley coach outside the CNR railway station in 1967, and a trolley car on Barrington St. at Grand Parade, ca. 1910. There are explanations on the backs of some of the post-cards.Bus Route maps are from Dartmouth Transit, which includes the ferry schedule (197?),and Halifax Transit (1971 and 1978). Tickets are from Nova Scotia Light and Power, Halifax Transit and the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission; transfers are from Dartmouth Transit, Halifax Transit and Metro Transit. Fonds consists of copies of material compiled by Donald MacLean, secretary of the Halifax Advisory Committee on Human Rights, from the Committee's active years, as well as from his continuing interest in the Africville story. There is an incomplete set of committee minutes, 1962-1968, as well as correspondence, reports, interview transcripts and newsclippings. There are also the original responses to a committee-sanctioned survey of Africville residents in 1962 for the purpose of determining how long they had been in Africville, what financial settlement they expected, and where they wanted to live. Fonds consists of materials created and/or accumulated by John E. Lloyd during his political career in municipal and federal politics. The fonds consists primarily of scrapbooks, black and white photographs, and newspaper clippings from Lloyd's time as Mayor of Halifax, but also contains some copies of speeches, correspondence, submissions, and a poster. Fonds · 1991-2004
Fonds consists of correspondence and project files for the creation and maintenance of the World Peace Pavilion on the Dartmouth waterfront. Records were created by the Metro Youth for Global Unity and the Baha'I World Peace Pavilion Stewardship Committee. Files are arranged predominently by country, and consist primarily of donation requests and related correspondence regarding the collection of bricks and rocks from numerous contries to be included in the pavilion. Also included are photographs of the donations,pamphlets and news clippings discussing the pavilion, the catalogue of donations, and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Halifax Regional Municipality and the The Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Halifax. There is a sound recording of a 1998 tour of the Pavilion in which initiator Rachel Farahbakhsh explains the project and tells the story of each donation. CR12

Fonds consists of correspondence, annual reports, by-laws, administrative documents, newspaper clippings, photographs, promotional material, surveys and questionnaires of clientele. The correspondence includes the earliest efforts to create a MOW branch in Halifax and include letters and information from other MOW branches in Canada. CR22
