Fonds consists of a manuscript by Barrett documenting his travels from England to Halifax in the late 1850s and his experiences at Albion Mines (renamed Stellarton,1870), prospecting for gold in N.S., his move to the United States and job as a bookseller, and working in the coal mines in Springhill, N.S. It includes an account of the Drummond Colliery Disaster, Stellarton, 1873; working conditions in coal mines in Pictou and Springhill in the 1870s; encounters with various individuals throughout his travels, and a personal account of the justice system during the mid-1870s.
