Printed and bound account book for tracking tolls collected at Pigot’s Farm Gate, Hants County, along the Windsor to Halifax Road. John Fielden recorded the month, day and names of people travelling through the toll gate, the number and kinds of livestock accompanying them and how much they paid. The book is only partially filled and arranged in chronological order. The first entry is dated August 13, 1782 and the last entry is October 20, 1782. 2015-021

Item is a handwritten certificate awarding John Frederick Traugott Gschwind with an Order of Military Merit (Orden pour la Vertu Militaire) from the Hessian Army signed by Frantz Carl Erdman von Seitz. It is written in French and German, with a red wax seal attached. On the back is written “Discharge from the Hessian --?-- 1st June 1782”. Provides additional documentation on the presence of the Hessian Army in Halifax after the American Revolutionary War.
