Effie Matchett fonds

Fonds consists of photographs, correspondence, and notes relating to Matchett’s research on three Lunenburg County vessels: the brigantine Leo (built in 1882), the schooner Commander (built in 1903), and the brigantine Maggie Belle (built in 1903). In addition to three original photographs, there are two copy prints. MBMS-15

Warren H.G. Hirtle fonds

Fonds consists of financial records relating to Hirtle’s activities as a merchant as well as his involvement with the Park Cemetery Corporation; a scrapbook compiled by Hirtle documenting the service of Mahone Bay’s First and Second World War military volunteers; a photocopy of Hirtle’s diary for the period from July 19, 1908 to January 25, 1909; and a letter from his brother, Wallace Hirtle. Murray P. Ernst fonds

The fonds consists of a view of the Ernst Shipyard in Mahone Bay as well as photographic portraits (by Lewis A. Hirtle of Lunenburg) of Ernst’s grandparents, Abraham (1849-1911) and Rachel (Graves) Ernst (1854-?). The latter was the daughter of Anthony Graves, who figured prominently in the history of the treasure hunt on Oak Island. MBMS-62

This fonds consists of postcards (with correspondence) to John Hunt, Charles Davis, and Winnifred Davis, together with a c.1905 photo album. The latter belonged to Sadie C. Hunt and includes photographs of Mahone Bay area landscapes, boats, houses, people (including her brother John E. Hunt), and a few photos from other parts of Nova Scotia and possibly the US. MBMS-60

Fonds consists of correspondence, financial records, and notes on military service records, all relating to the committee’s activities. The records also include Canon Harris’s original monument design as well as various drafts of the monument text, records relating to the unveiling ceremony, and a photograph of the Mi’kmaq soldier Thomas Hammond, whose name appears on the monument.
