Fonds consists of judgements books (1837-1843, 1860-1922, 1936-1967) which include indexes and were used to record names of parties involved, date of judgement, amount of damages and/or costs awarded and occasionally a summary of proceedings including a list of witnesses; one docket book (1859-1882); and jury books used to record lists of persons sitting on grand and petit juries. Fonds also contains high sheriff's attachment registers (1905-1949) which record the issuance of writs of final process or the enforcement of the sentence in a judicial proceedings, names of parties, amount, writ number, court, attorney, date and nature of return, and fees; sheriff's letter book (1900-1903); and accounts of monthly returns to government. Judgement book 'A', kept by prothonotary and county clerk, John Edgar, contains some entries for county court.

Series forms part of the Ronald Slade family fonds and consists of pages from the Slade family bible recording births, deaths, and marriages, including Charles Slade, Mary Jane (Crawford) Brown, and their children: Charles Duncan and Alexander Crawford. Also included are records of Mary Jane’s first husband, James Brown, and their children: Archibald, Isabella, James, Henry, Mary Ann, Frances, Ronald, and Edward. In addition, records for Duncan (Charles Duncan) Slade and Sarah Day, Alexander C. Slade and Hattie F. Gaetz and their children: Elliott, Gertrude, Charles, and Ronald are included together with records of Gertrude Marie Myers and James W. Myers. Series also includes the obituary of Mrs. Alexander Slade (Hattie Florence Gaetz), a certificate of Martha Frances Abbott, the marriage certificate of Ronald Mitchell Slade and Annie Marie Murley, and two marriage certificates of Alexander C. Slade and Hattie F. Gaetz. In addition, series contains clippings of the obituary of Mrs. Alexander Slade, an advertisement requesting information about Slades posted by Ida Slade, and two obituaries of Ronald M. Slade. Carl Bennett

Fonds consists of Carl's letters written to his sister and parents in Halifax while serving overseas between 1916 and 1918. He wrote several times a month and the letters describe Carl's social and military activities in detail, both in France and in England. Included are stories about fellow officers and friends, social and recreational activities such as visits to concerts and the theatre, sports, motor trips, dining out, and card games. There are also descriptions of his war experiences such as learning to fly military aircraft and being exposed to shelling, anti-aircraft guns and bombs. In addition there is a letter to John Bennett (Carl's ancestor), from his brother in Aberdeen, Scotland, dated 19 March 1818. In it Bennett describes his dangerous transatlantic voyage in a small vessel. There is also a letter to Carl from Jessie Bell of London, a cousin, who provides family information and biographical information on Carl and the Bennett family. 2004-029
