File consists of statute labour books from 1843 to 1844. Statute labour refers to the practice whereby citizens do labour, usually on roads, as part of the payment of municipal taxes. The statute books record the names of the citizens engaged in statute labour, and in some cases give additional details about their payment in lieu of working. There are two books for the year 1844 which appear to be duplicates, but not exactly. 101-2J
