The majority of the records are in regards to business conducted by James Patterson. Also included in the scrapbook are the signatures of many prominent Nova Scotian government officials and two deeds regarding Mahone Bay residents. In addition, there is a collection of newspaper clippings regarding the history of Pictou and area and one photograph of the exterior of Pictou Academy.

These consist of ledgers, accounts, receipts, promissary notes, contracts and correspondence. The correspondence includes letters regarding cargo, sale of vessels, political events in Halifax and some personal correspondence with family and friends. Also included are records regarding the settling of David Davison's estate.

The account book contains records regarding Thomas's timber trading and mercantile business. Following the departure of Thomas, Jannet used the book to record boarding house accounts and some minor sales.
