Arranged in notebooks according to subjects, which include education, agriculture, fisheries, roads, budgets, finance, insurance, tramways bill, Armistice Day, Confederation, World War One, War of 1812, Church Union movement, Saint Andrew's Society, and criticisms and biography of Tory. As clerk of the works Creed was required to visit sites under the responsibility of the Royal Engineers. Some of his letter-books and journals include his trips to western parts of Hants County, N.S., including Rawdon and Windsor.These records also include his opinions and activities relating to various religious denominations, particularly the Baptist church, and his continuing education through weekly attendance at Mechanics Institute lectures. 1998-127

Consists of draft chapters of Patterson's work entitled "Pioneers of Presbyterianism in the Maritime Provinces of Canada" and manuscript of "French Protestant Emigration to Nova Scotia"; correspondence regarding his research on James MacGregor, including letters written to Patterson, 1857-1858, discussing MacGregor's life, missionary activities, and personal character, as well as four letters written from Rev. James Thomsen to MacGregor, 1820, 1821, 1825, 1870, which include mention of the fire at Miramichi, congregational matters, and the state of religion in Nova Scotia. Among the correspondence is related research material, some concerning the division of the Pictou congregation, such as extracts of letters, documents, and minutes for the Church of Scotland; and poems. Fonds also includes notebooks with extracts from letters of many Presbyterian ministers to the Colonial Society in Scotland and biographical notes on Presbyterian ministers and missionaries, 1829-1834, 1863; two scrapbooks containing clippings, correspondence, and notes concerning Indians, 1878-1894, and Pictou County history and clergymen, 1858-1888; and a journal kept while Patterson was a student at Edinburgh University, 1847-1848. Consists of correspondence and other records created and accumulated by George R. Young, primarily in the course of his legal and political career. Correspondence covers the period from 1814, when Young was in Castine as a merchant for his father to 1852, the year before his death. Includes letters between Young, his family, friends in England, and colleagues and constituents in Nova Scotia. Letters describe local events, his appointment to the Executive Council, and political matters in Pictou County, including elections, education, roads, poor relief, and the Halifax and Quebec railway. Also includes correspondence, minutes, and accounts relating to the Prince Edward Island Land Company, formed by Young and Samuel Cunard, and land disputes involving Young's clients in Prince Edward Island. Contains letters to the editor and articles accumulated when Young was managing the Novascotian, as well as published and unpublished manuscripts. MG 2 volumes 719-725

John Young

Consists of correspondence and other records created and received by Young, relating to agricultural, business, and political affairs. The majority of letters are written to Young from acquaintances including Lord Dalhousie, Sir James Kempt, Rear Admiral W. Griffith, and officials from local agricultural societies concerning agricultural matters. Other letters relate to the Free Press controversy over Young's agricultural theories and his ensuing dispute with James Cuppaidge Cochran, James William Johnson, and others, as well as political matters including elections and condition of roads. Fonds also contains copies of the Agricola letters, personal correspondence between Young, his wife Nancy and son William discussing business affairs, family news, and events including the war with Britain. Also contains a few letters to John and Nancy Young from the Rennys in Scotland concerning personal and family news. Consists of business records of the Churchill family, 1845-1957, and Churchill family property transactions, 1804-1958. The business records include correspondence relating largely to financial and property matters, and a cash book. The family land records document property transactions of the Churchill family, including Ezra and his sons, and include deeds, mortgages, leases, agreements, assignments, licenses, bonds and sometimes plans of properties. It is believed that the early land records were utilized by the Estate company as a reference in the course of their daily business. 2004-045
Georgia H. Cunningham

Consists of negatives taken by Georgia H. Cunningham for clients who patronized her commercial studio. The geographic area represented is almost exclusively Bridgetown and surrounding area. Cunningham's work is primarily portraiture although from 1942 onwards there are a number of photographs of school classes and societies as well as the Bridgetown Salvation Army Citadel. Approximately five percent of the photographs include views of shopfronts, buildings, churches, streets, scenery and special events such as the visit of the Bishop of Nova Scotia to St. James Anglican Church in 1946. Also includes a few glass plate negatives which may have been taken by previous commercial studio owners Joseph Rice or Edith Crosskill, as well as negatives and prints left with her by clients for processing or given to her by others. Also contains a photograph and three letters concerning Dr. Otto Srasser (1898-1974) a Nazi exile who lived in Paradise, Nova Scotia for fifteen years. 1989-433
