Item is a handwritten certificate awarding John Frederick Traugott Gschwind with an Order of Military Merit (Orden pour la Vertu Militaire) from the Hessian Army signed by Frantz Carl Erdman von Seitz. It is written in French and German, with a red wax seal attached. On the back is written “Discharge from the Hessian --?-- 1st June 1782”. Provides additional documentation on the presence of the Hessian Army in Halifax after the American Revolutionary War.

Collection partially documents the business and personal lives of Albert Lee’s parents Shew Chuck Lee and Sui Fa Lee, and the families of Charlie Wing Lee and Nellie Lee, Dow Fong, and Mary (Ling) Mohammad. Collection contains wedding, school and family photographs (1910?-2011); restaurant menus and similar transitory documents (ca.1940s-ca.1950s); audio recordings of interviews with Dow Fong, Chuck Lee, Annett Ling, George Ling, William Ling, Dr. Larry Shyu and Dr. William Wong (1988, 2011-2012); memoir on childhood in China, business licenses and card from Chuck Lee (1980s, ca.1920s, 1946) as well as his engineering diploma from Dalhousie University (1939). Also includes a memoir of life at a Halifax Chinese laundry by Linda Lee Oland (1997); historical essays written by Albert Lee (1999-2014) and promotional items for the Nova Scotia Museum exhibit “Growing Up Chinese in Halifax” (1997). The collection was assembled by Albert Lee for this 1997 museum exhibit. 40 items, including 4 audio interview recordings, were subsequently digitized for use by University of British Columbia Library for their digital exhibit “Early Chinese History in the Maritimes” in 2011-2012. Items are arranged by family creator/owner, with those items used in the digital exhibit filed separately.

Fonds consist of five accounts ledgers listing account name and community, goods purchased, price, and payment, both cash and in-kind (1876-1936), notes on harness-making supplies and items (ca. 1918), notes on length and dimensions of types of harness, two scrapbooks with pasted receipts and statements of purchase from leather and harness manufacturers, suppliers, and wholesalers across Nova Scotia and Montreal (1886-1930); stock certificates for mining companies, an annual report for the Pasadena Gold-Silver Mines (1923), one letter, and a leather-bound notebook with miscellaneous notes.

Consists of an amateur film titled "Iceboating" made by Roger Belanger in the late 1960s to promote this winter sport, and as an instructional aid. It depicts members of the Nova Iceboat Club assembling and sailing their crafts at 3 Halifax County locations: Bedford Basin, Grand Lake, and Lake MicMac. The film has no sound. Belanger and his friend Richard Vine used to play recorded music when showing the film.

Exhibits M1 to M22 include public notices newspaper clippings; a copy of the application from NS Light & Power Co. Ltd.; a plan showing proposed new dam site on Gold River (blueprint copy) and map of Lunenburg County showing the drainage area; briefs submitted from companies, municipalities, and associations; signed petitions supporting the application; and the original Order-in-Council. Exhibits S1 to S13 include Department of Fisheries annual report 1959 and brief; written submissions from individuals and fishing associations; and salmon fishing statistics 1949-1960. Exhibits X1 to X15 contain written submissions from individuals.
