Part of Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital fonds
Series forms part of the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital fonds and includes seven black and white photographs and thirty-one color photographs related to the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital. Included is a photograph of the official opening of the hospital on June 8, 1950 featuring Dr. Morrison and other hospital staff members, a photograph of the nursery inside the hospital, a photograph of a woman near a sign on the roadside advertising the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital fair, photos of patients, two photographs of Charles Illsey turning the sod for the hospital on July 5, 1948; and a photograph of the ceremony that took place that day with the Honourable G. Stevens addressing those in attendance. Series also contains various photographs of the new hospital facility being built c. 1977. Accession number 2013.065

Fonds consists of financial records belonging to William Gaetz including insurance papers, receipts, correspondence, documents related to the estate of Josephine Gaetz, and military pension information. Also included are records related to Gaetz’s time spent serving in WWI, correspondence with soldiers during WWII, records related to Gaetz’s membership in the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Musquodoboit Harbour United Church for which Gaetz acted as treasurer. Church records include financial papers and correspondence, account books, receipts, religious education material, meeting minutes, photographs, insurance documents, and other material. Fonds also includes records pertaining to electoral districts and voters as Gaetz was one of the revisors of the voter lists for his district. In addition, fonds includes lists of officers of the Musquodoboit Harbour Volunteer Fire Department and other material. Accession number 2012.001

Fonds consist of records created and accumulated by Florence M. MacDonald relating to her personal life and three generations of the Donald MacDonald family of Sherbrooke, Guysborough County. Included are a Gaelic language Bible (1867) belonging to Donald MacDonald; a cookbook (1879) interleaved with handwritten family recipes and recipe clippings belonging to Mrs. Donald MacDonald; and records relating to James Wm. MacDonald, Murray MacDonald, and John Geddie MacDonald. Also included are MacDonald family portraits and two photograph albums, one of Florence MacDonald and friends in Sherbrooke and Halifax, and another of lumbering, hunting, and fishing along the St. Mary's River; Province of Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture Domestic Science Bulletin No. 1, Women's Institute Division, The Cooking and Canning of Vegetables (1916); community newspaper clippings and obituaries; personal files and correspondence; and genealogy research and correspondence relating to the MacDonald and Sutherland families of St. Mary's. Also included are originals and copied b&w photographs and negatives used or considered as part of Florence MacDonald's book "Sherbrooke as I Remember It," published in 1987. Part of Grace (Williams) Forsythe fonds
Series forms part of the Grace (Williams) Forsythe fonds and consists of photographs and copies of photographs of people, buildings, and scenes along the Eastern Shore. Included are photographs of Salmon River Bridge in the 1930s and 1960s, Byron Myers’ store and post office and Nat Dooks’ store at Head of Jeddore, fish stores owned by Mr. Jim and Captain Will Harpell (grandfather of Grace), the ship Hans Leonhardt which was on her maiden voyage from Germany to Jeddore in September of 1938 and in port during the Czecho-Slovakian crisis, HMCS Sackville in 1944, Jeddore Harbour in winter, several photographs of unidentified people, the United Church at Head of Jeddore, St. George’s Church in Ostrea Lake, the Baptist Church in Oyster Pond, and Reverend Robert Jamieson. Also included are copies of a photograph of Harpell’s Cove showing the home of Jeremiah and Emma Harpell c. 1920, a general view of West Jeddore, and several postcards featuring scenes of Ostrea Lake and Jeddore as well as two negatives including one of Ostrea Lake School, and a clipped picture of the T.S.S. The first three series of the fonds consist of essays and research written and compiled by Mr. Patrick Milligan and Mr. D. Engram’s grade ten students at Eastern Shore District High School between 1973 and 1980 as part of a class project on local history. The essays include information about various aspects of the history of the Eastern Shore such as industries and occupations, activities, cemeteries, churches, individuals, houses, education, and family and community history. Selected essays from Mr. Milligan’s local history course, 1974-1975, were compiled into a school publication called The Shore Thing, a preliminary copy of which is included in the fonds. The purpose of the book was to introduce students to their own area and familiarize them with the history of local communities along the Eastern Shore. It was placed in the school library for the benefit of all students. The fonds also consists of yearbooks and a newspaper published by the school during the first ten years of its operation. Rudolph, Odous Webber of Upper Lakeville, and the Blakeney, Colford, Pettipas, Ramsey, and Roma families. Series also includes essays pertaining to the history of local houses including the Blakeney, Anderson, Myers, Foley, Day, and Crawford residences as well as various historic buildings in Porters Lake including the school, St. Mark’s Church, the 14 ½ Mile House, Innis House, and Eddie Bonn House.
