Fonds consists of records documenting the operation and management of Wm. Stairs, Son and Morrow, its predecessors and subsidiaries. Contains business correspondence, 1820s-1931; legal documents, 1771-1919; shipping papers, 1840-1899; annual reports,1946-1972; financial statements and statistical reports, 1886-1903, 1943-1972; cash books, 1843-1945; accounts ledgers, 1890-1925; sales journals and reports, 1887-1923; several scrapbooks, some with clippings on company history and others with advertisements, 1915-1928; a company prospectus, 1940s; and management and training manuals. There are also numerous photographs of company offices, events, ships, and people, 1898-1968; and early blueprints and plans for Stairs and Morrow properties in Dartmouth, mills, warehouses, store facades and renovations, 1860s-1930. Subsidiary companies represented include Dartmouth Manufacturing Co., N.S. Tractor and Equipment, A.M. Bell and Co., Maritime Paper Products., and C.P. Moore Ltd., Sydney, Nova Scotia.The fonds also includes a later accrual, described as a separate series, of Advertising Manager's memos, correspondence, photographs and video of construction of new store. William Stairs fonds

Fonds consists of deeds, indentures, accounts, receipts, and letters primarily documenting the business transactions of William Stairs. Most of the material relates to the sale and purchase of property involving Stairs and the Stayner family. Includes several letters written by T.A. Stayner, as well as letters from William Kidston and Sons of Glasgow, Scotland. Letters also include mention of financial affairs, the Grand Trunk railway, economic depression, Confederation, and the Civil War. MG 1, vol. 880-881
Charles and John Inglis

Consists of an Act Book, also entitled "..Register of the Diocese of Nova Scotia and its Dependeces", kept from the time of Bishop Charles Inglis' consecration in 1787 until 18 September 1810. The book contains the names and particulars of men he ordained to the ministry and which parish the minister was licensed to serve in. There is a gap in the book until 1825-1826 when it was kept by his son, Bishop John Inglis, who also included additional notes, 1829-1837. The Act Book also contains rough copies of letters and documents drafted by Charles Inglis before they were forwarded to the addressee, usually officers of state, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, and two letters written by John Inglis when he acted as commissary to his father. There are also copies of documents by Charles Inglis relating to the proposal to consecrate bishops for the United States, copies of letters he wrote to the commission appointed by Parliament in London stating the losses he sustained as a Loyalist, and a copy of the deed of endowment of St. Pauls Church, Halifax, 1771. Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by four generations of the Uniacke family of Halifax and Mount Uniacke, N.S. Family members include Richard John Uniacke, Rev. James Boyle and his wife Mary (Merkel), Rev. Robert Fitzgerald, Richard John II, Rev. Richard John III (R.J.), Crofton and his wife Dorothy (Fawson), Andrew Mitchell, James Boyle, and Alicia Uniacke. Fonds contains originals and copies of correspondence concerning legal matters and financial transactions as well as some personal letters; accounts and other financial records, several relating to the Mount Uniacke estate; wills; commissions; deeds and grants mainly concerning family property at Mount Uniacke; private letter book of Richard John Uniacke, 1821-1824; memorandum written by Richard John Uniacke to Windham in 1806 regarding British colonies in America and trade; journal of Rev. R.J. Uniacke III describing his trip from Sydney to New York in 1876 as well as a manuscript of his short plays and his drawings; genealogical notes and charts (some on microfilm); biographical notes; poems and literary manuscripts, two written about the Uniacke family and estate (on microfilm); typescript relating to the indictment against Richard John Uniacke II; newspaper clippings about Mount Uniacke and Uniacke House; and printed material and other items concerning the Uniackes of Youghal, Ireland. Fonds also contains photograph portraits of Uniacke family members, Anglican and Episcopal bishops, and others, and four letters received by Capt. Moody family

Consists of business and personal letters mostly to/from James Moody (1744-1809), but also his second wife Jane Moody, grandson Elisha William Budd Moody (1799-1863) and great grandson John Wentworth Moody (1826-1894); business letters of John Wentworth Moody (1826-1894) and John W.’s son Elisha William Budd Moody (1863-1942); Philip Moody’s (1890-1975) childhood letters to his mother in 1890s; commissions to militias; certificates; memorials and testimonies in support of James Moody’s military actions; property deeds (including one for the purchase of an enslaved girl named Sylva 1807), wills, powers of attorney and other legal documents; two original land grants 1787 and 1816; an inventory of John W.’s possessions 1892; and family photographs and coat of arms. Also includes invitations, family genealogical records, and transcripts of some letters. Alexander Houston

Fonds consists of a bound diary in two sections. The first section was writen from 7 January 1778 to September 1779 while Houston was in New York. It recounts details of the weather, arrivals and departures of ships, troop movements, and various battles of the American rebels and their French allies against the British during the Revolutionary War. The second section of the diary was written in Shelburne, Nova Scotia and covers the period from 18 March to 30 May 1788. It details the weather, crop plantings and failures, ice conditions, hauling seaweed, dealing with the black flies, work around the house and other daily events. It is not certain that both portions of the diary were written by Alexander Houston because of differences in the handwriting. MG 1 volume 483C
Thomas McCulloch

Consists of letters between McCulloch and his friends and colleagues, Rev. James Mitchell and Jotham Blanchard, discussing the affairs of Pictou Academy, the Presbyterian Church in Nova Scotia, relations with the Church of Scotland, Lord Dalhousie, and personal and political news. Other correspondents include C.D. Archibald regarding Dalhousie College, George Smith, George Young, Rev. K.J. McKenzie, and Rev. Thomas Trotter. Also contains subscription lists, minutes of meetings, correspondence, petitions, and accounts concerning Pictou Academy; scientific notes and lectures given by McCulloch; speeches and sermons; theological and literary writings, including manuscripts of the letters of Mephibosheth Stepsure, "William", "Melville", "Auld Eppie's tales", and an unpublished novel; minutes of congregation meetings; and publications including newspapers and pamphlets accumulated by McCulloch and his family. Contains some correspondence and other items relating to McCulloch's sons, Rev. William McCulloch and Thomas McCulloch Jr., and letters from Mrs. J.W. McCulloch to granddaughter Elizabeth McCulloch.
