Item consists of an oblique aerial photograph showing Fairview and the North End from Bedford Basin to Bayer's Road and showing up to Dartmouth. Shows rail lines, Fairview Railway station (demolished in 1949), Fairview Roundhouse and Repair yards, Fairview Cemetery, St. John Church and Cemetery, Department of Transportation buildings, Africville including the houses "Round the Bend," Kempt Road, Windsor St., Lady Hammond Road, Titus Smith School, Rockhead Prison, wharves, farmland, etc. Note that the upper part of the image (east from about Robie St.) has fallen out of focus, likely due to the lens or aperture used when photographed. 102-105-1.39

File consists of photographs commissioned by the Recreation Department to document the events and entertainment the Recreation Department had organized for the G-7 Summit held in Halifax, June 15-17, 1995. Entertainers shown include Bucky Adams, Amethyst Dancers, Ashley MacIsaac; John Allen Cameron, Mary Jane Lammond, Stewart Cameron, Razzmatazz, Chester Band, Uisce Beatha, Mass Choir, Every Damn Sunday, United Light, the Floor-Boards, Joe Sealey Trio, Naina Yeltsina (wife of Russian President Boris Yeltsin), Halifax Town Crier, Bluenose II, U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard, and crowds of Haligonian and visitors enjoying the entertainment. Venues shown include the Halifax waterfront, Grand Parade, Public Gardens, Exhibition in Halifax Tourism building, the new Granville Mall, Summit Plaza, Purdy's Wharf. Images also show the City preparing international visitors, security preparations, staff preparing souvenirs, the unveiling ceremony of the mural in the NS Tourism office, tennis tournament, rugby game, the sponsor showcase exhibits, and event volunteers. Freelance photographer Graham Lavers was specifically commissioned to document the people of Halifax enjoying and benefitting from the entertainment organized by the City of Halifax. Item consists of an engraving of a portrait of Joseph Howe. The engraving is framed in a gold-coloured wooden frame with a white matboard with an oval aperture. A gold metal plaque is mounted on the glass of the frame, which reads: "Presented to the / Joseph Howe Society / by the / Honourable A. Garnet Brown / Minister of Recreation / September 1978."
