Item consists of a hand painted commemorative plate, principally red, gold, and green in colour, with a peacock and flowers as the central images. Displayed for 25th anniversary of the twinning of Halifax and Hakodate. An accompanying card reads: "A decorative porcelain plate from the famous Japanese ceramic centre of KUTANI. Kutani village is now called Kaga-shi, in Ishikawa Prefecture. Halifax-Hakodata, Sister Cities, 25th Anniversary." 102-145-1.1

An accompanying card reads: "HAGOITA - A Japanese badminton racket. Japanese badminton is called HANETSUKI, and is traditionally played around New Year's. Halifax-Hakodate, Sister Cities, 25th Anniversary." On the back of the racquet is written, "Sakai, 1985." The racket was given as a gift on July 9, 1988. 102-145-1.6

An accompanying card reads: "From this music box you can hear the melody of 'Hakodate's Song of Praise' (Composed by Mr. Ryohei Hirose). In 1973 this song was first performed, since then it has been sung and become popular with all the citizens because it expresses the pride of living in Hakodate and the vitality of citizens who work hard for a bright future. We hope you will keep this music box and play it as a happy remembrance of Hakodate. With many thanks, The city of Hakodate." Item is a gift from Hakodate to Halifax. 102-145-1.9
