Sub-Lieutenant Stewart was appointed as a Naval Airman 2/c RNVR on May 16, 1943. He served in RNAS Lee-on-Solent for training in 1943, followed by service in HMS St. Vincent and USNAS Grosse Isle MI as an A/Leading Airman RNVR, with seniority dated October 6, 1943. In 1944, he served in USNAS Pensacola for NATC (CFR), and was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (P) (Temp.) RCNVR with seniority dated May 13, 1944. He served in NAAS Saufley Field, NAAS Whiting Field, USNAS Corry Field, and received his pilot wings on July 28, 1944. He then served in USNAS Jacksonville for US NAOTC, followed by service in HMS Saker for duty at USNAF Lewiston ME for 738 RN Squadron, USNAS Brunswick ME to form 1831 RN Squadron 1831 as Pilot, and USNAF Bar Harbour ME – all in 1944. In 1945, he served in RNAS Eglinton, then transferred to RCNVR on May 5, 1945, and was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (P) (Temp.) RCNVR with seniority dated May 13, 1944. He served in HMS Glory, RAF Halfar Malta, RNAS Dekheila Egypt, RNAS Katakukuranda, RNAS Schofields, RNAS Jervis Bay, and HMS Golden Hind. On November 10, 1945, he was appointed as a Lieutenant (P) (Temp.) RCNVR, and then transferred to RCN on the same date, with seniority dated November 10, 1945. He served in HMCS Bytown and Uganda in 1946, followed by service in HMCS Stadacona, RCNAS Dartmouth for 743 Squadron, HMCS Warrior for 883 Squadron (18th Carrier Air Group), HMCS Cayuga, HMCS Warrior and HMCS Niobe in 1947-1948. He also served in RAF Shawbury for Empire Air Navigation School for #28 Advanced Navigation Course, and HMCS Stadacona for RCN Barracks Halifax in RCNAS Dartmouth for #1 Training Air Group. The second picture has accompanying information about the photograph. The item includes a certification for the Anson Aircraft and a certification of the pilot's reliability. The document contains information about the make and model of the plane flown, the pilot's name, the number of hours flown, exercises and drills recorded in numerical format, courses run, locational information of training received, monthly flying totals, ASR (Submarine Rescue Vessel) searches, bombings, and enemy sightings. It also includes information on duties at new postings such as exercises, instructional duties, and hours flown. This document also includes a record of service and a record of aircraft flown. Lieutenant Morris served in several different locations and positions throughout his military career. In 1943, he served at RAF Goderich for #12 Elementary Flying Training School and later at RAF Kingston for #31 Service Flying Training School. In 1944, he served in H.M.S. Macaw, H.M.S. Daedalus for 798 RN Squadron, H.M.S. Blackcap, and H.M.S. Wagtail for 772 RN Squadron in FRU Course. On July 14th, 1944, he was awarded wings. In 1945, he served in H.M.S. Drake for Aero Engine Course at RNEC Devonport and in H.M.S. Kestrel for Area Engine and Air Armament at RNAS Worthy Down. He also served in RNAS Rattray for H.M.S. Merganser for 708 Squadron (Barracuda) as Air Engineer Instructor and Flight Test Duties. In 1946, he served in H.M.S. Heron for 700 RN Squadron for Test Pilot Course and in HMCS Stadacona for RCN Barracks Halifax for RCN Air Section (Dartmouth) for Duty as Test Pilot and Air Engineering Officer. In 1947, he continued his duty in No.1 Training Air Group at HMCS Stadacona. In 1949, he served in HMCS Bytown for Duty With Assistant Chief of Naval Technical Services (Air) and HMCS Ontario. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (E) (A/E) (P) RCN with seniority dated 01/04/1950. He continued his duty in HMCS Bytown for Staff of Assistant Chief of Naval Technical Services (Air) and in HMCS Shearwater as Officer-in-Charge Avenger Prototype Project Team. In 1951, he served in HMCS Shearwater as Officer-in-Charge RCN Aircraft Project Team and as Assistant Air Test and Liaison Officer. He served in HMCS Shearwater and HMCS Magnificent for Staff of 30th Carrier Air Group as Air Engineer Officer in 1952. In 1953, he was promoted to Commander (E) (A/E) (P) RCN. He continued his service in HMCS Niagara on Staff of Naval Member of Canadian Joint Staff (Washington) as Staff Officer and as Staff Officer (Air Engineering) and as Staff Officer (Engineering). In 1956, he served in HMCS Shearwater For Duty With School of Naval Aircraft Maintenance as Officer-in-Charge and as Air Engineer Officer. In 1960, he served in HMCS Bytown on Staff of Engineer-in-Chief as Director of Air Engineering, and in 1961, he served on the Staff of Director General Aircraft as Director of Aircraft Maintenance. Throughout his career, he flew a variety of different aircraft, from the Tiger Moth to the Tracker. He also had his flying clothing and equipment record book, photos of the Tiger Moth and Harvard aircraft, and his flying assessments in his logbook. SAM.2006.37.1

A/Sub.Lieut(A) Shepard S.A. was a member of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (RNVR). He was at HMCS Shearwater for NATO Observers training from May 4th, 1955, to January 12th, 1956. His logbook covers his training at Shearwater and then at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Eglinton, Northern Ireland, from February 8th, 1956, to May 5th, 1956. A/Sub. Lieut then transferred to the Channel Air Division at Royal Air Station (RAS) Ford, also known as HMS Peregrine, in West Sussex, U.K. SAM.2005.66.1

Later, he was appointed as a Midshipman (SSA) for the RCN on September 1, 1956. In this role, he served in HMCS Niagara for pilot training with plate number 1. He also received flight training in USNAS Pensacola, NAAS Saufley Field, NAAS Corry Field, and USNAS Kingsville TX in 1956. Later that year, he served in HS-443 Squadron in CFB Shearwater and in HMCS Protecteur, HMCS Preserver, and HMCS Athabaskan for HS-443 Squadron Air Detachment. In 1977, he served in CFB Shearwater for HT-406 Squadron as Course Control and Administration Officer. Finally, he served in CFB Shearwater Base Operations as Operations Duty Officer in 1983, before retiring on February 19, 1994. Throughout his service, Lt. Nichols flew various aircraft and helicopters, including the Fleet 80 Canuck, C-45 Beechcraft Expeditor, Bell HTL-6 Sioux Helicopter, H04S-3 Horse Helicopter, CH-124 Sea King Helicopter, CH-136 Kiowa Helicopter, and the Grumman Tracker. Roderick Orrison Cutler was born on September 18, 1895, in Burnaby, British Columbia. In December 1916, he joined the military as a Signal Corporal for the 81st Regiment, B.C. Horse. He sailed from Halifax aboard the SS Olymus on April 29, 1917. He was promoted to Sergeant in February 1916. Later, he served as a Gunner for the 68th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery in September 1916. In November 1916, he served in the Signal Company, Canadian Engineers, as a Sapper and was promoted to Corporal in December the same year, and to Sergeant in March 1917. In April 1917, he was sent to England and then to France in July 1917 to serve in the Canadian Corps Signal Company as a Sapper. In January 1918, he joined the Royal Naval Air Service as a Probationary Flight Officer. Unfortunately, he crashed during a flight in Lee-on-Solent on August 22, 1918. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant in October 1918 and joined the 219th Squadron in Yarmouth in November 1918. In January 1919, he joined the 229th Squadron in Westgate-on-Sea. He was discharged from service in Canada in July 1919. Cutler returned to Canada aboard the SS Magentic sailing from Liverpool on June 29, 1919. After his return, Cutler finished his degree at the newly formed University of British Columbia with a degree in Applied Science. He then became a Mechanical Engineer and married Ruby Luella Greggs on April 9, 1920. In Cutler's journal, you can see that he received correspondence from Luella on a regular basis. We know that 2Lt. Cutler was in Skeena, British Columbia in 1931 with his wife and two children. Mr. Cutler passed away in Vancouver, British Columbia on November 25, 1969.This volume details Cutler’s enlistment in the RNAS, which was the Air branch of the Royal Navy until April 1918, when it was merged with the British Royal Flying Corps and created the Royal Air Force. The volume focuses on his daily routine between 1918 and 1919, with entries describing the lectures, tests and drills which were part of his training, flight and weapons training, flying operations and drills, and weather conditions (sporadic). In the second volume of Lcdr Hillard's logbook, it is shown that he was stationed at CFB Shearwater and flew CS2F Trackers for 880 Squadron. The logbook contains records of his flights, three stores transfer vouchers, co-pilots, and a list of exercises he participated in. Additionally, Lcdr Hillard spent time on board H.M.C.S Margaree and H.M.C.S Saskatchewan. He accumulated a total of 3085 hours of flying time. He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RCN. Lt. (P) Hilliard was a naval aviator with the Royal Canadian navy. Lt (P) Hilliard began his flight training at RCAF Station Centralia, Ontario on August 4, 1949, on Harvard and Expeditor aircraft. On May 3, Lt (P) Hilliard was transferred to RCAF Station Trenton, Ontario, to complete his training on the Harvard and Expeditor. On July 24, 1950, Lt (P) Hilliard was transferred to Operational Flying School 1 Lassiemouth in Moray, North-East Scotland, where he was trained on Firefly aircraft. On October 27, 1950, he was transferred to Operational Flying School 2 - 737 Squadron Eglington, Toronto, Ontario, where he finished his training on Fireflies. On February 8, 1951, Lt. (P) Hilliard was posted to 825 Squadron, 19 Support Air Group Shearwater, Nova Scotia, where he mostly flew Harvard, Firefly, and Avenger, Tracker, and HTL-6 Sioux Helicopters. During his time in HMCS Shearwater, Lt (P) Hilliard served at 825/880 Squadron, VU-32 Squadron, and also spent time flying aboard H.M.C.S. Magnificent. SAM.2005.115.1a
